Meat imports increased

Bovine meat imports for August 2021 amounts to 1 051 tons, representing an increase of 6% if compared to August 2020, according to Agri Inspec.

The FOB (Free on Board) price for August 2021 was R41.54 p/kg and R45.73 p/kg for August 2020. This represents a 9% decrease in price per kg.

The major imports originated from Botswana (225 tons).

Live weaner imports for August 2021 amounts to 32 378 units. This represents an increase of 102% if compared to August 2020. The price was R7 145.80 per unit, which is 6% higher than August 2020.

Sheep meat imports for August 2021 amounts to 153 tons. This represents an increase of 190% if compared to August 2020. The FOB price was R36.27 which is 24% higher than the August 2020 price.

The major imports originated from Australia (153 tons).

Live sheep imports for August 2021 amounts to 16 431 units. This represents an increase of 12% if compared to August 2020.The price was R1 176.80 per unit which is 29% higher than August 2020.

Namibia was the major exporter to South Africa with 16 431 units.
